Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I just finished reading this book and I keep cringing at the notion that I would never survive one of these games. The reminds me that I need to eat less, exercise more, and that I could probably benefit by brushing up on my survival skills.
The novel tells a story of a post-apocalyptic future where 12 districts surround a capital. The people in the districts suffer while supporting the capital and the capital keeps the districts in check by hosting annual Hunger Games, where teens and tweens fight to the death. The winning district gets a little more favor from the capital and the losers are left without two of their children.
The main character is a girl who loves to hunt. Collins does a great job of letting you into her mind. You realize that the games are not just about killing.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, which is already out, called Catching Fire.
